TYPO3 - Success with Strategy

The booming Open Source project TYPO3, a content management framework that has been installed over 72 000 times, is, with strategy and good organisation, moving towards a clearly defined future.

Vienna 10/01/2005:     In Tirol, an international congress of 140 leading TYP03 experts laid down strategies and programming trends for the successful Open Source tool. The path chosen is delineated by new directions for programmers and the clearly defined organisation of the Open Source project.

The Recipe for Success: Modularity coupled with Open Source

'Object oriented typescript' (OBTS), a revolutionary tool, is undoubtedly the most interesting trend for programmers and software-developers. OBTS offers a graphic editor (IDE) for the easier generation and management of templates, as well as an expanded set of content objects, thereby permitting the use of pre-established PHP-functions.
A modular 'drag+drop' function in the development field allows one to construct complex configurations without any programming expertise whatsoever: a simple click of the mouse is all it takes!

The TYP03 Media database, DAM (Digital Asset Management) was released with the new version in a stable and documented form. DAM helps editors with its automatic key-wording and categorization of medial data. With this media-pool for the website, the efficient use of medial data, in any format (and supplied with meta-data) becomes
possible.

New authentification services for front-end, as well as back-end, users permit the authentification of TYP03 against any data-source. In this way existing user-data from LDAP, Active Directory, Novell e-directory, Oracle, Ms-Sql, Sybase or MySQL, can be used directly. Nothing now stands in the way of the integration of TYP03 into the widely used single-sign-on workspaces.

A upcoming version, Version 3.8, which has numerous new features relating to the workflow, index search-engine, and version control, has already been announced.

Safely into the future with Open Source

To provide the fast-growing TYP03 community (over 17 000 registered members worldwide) with substantial support, the TYP03 Association was founded. It is based in Switzerland.  One of the main tasks of the association is the continual adaptation of TYP03 to international software standards. In so doing, the association not only supports the development community, but also provides guidance for companies who place CMS in Open Source.  With the new organisation an institutional partner for the discussion of financial and legal matters has been created.
In addition, the TYP03 Association will concern itself with the quality control of worldwide development, insofar as it becomes possible for developers and agents to have their work certified. The TYP03 Association is the logical consequence of the impetuous development of TYP03.

In September 2005 the first international conference around TYP03 will take place. TYCON3 will take place in Karlsruhe where, in separate sessions, the needs and concerns of clients as well as of the development community will be addressed.
