User benefits and quality guarantees at the heart of the updated version
Kopenhagen, Vienna (31. May 2005, 9:00am): With the new version of the open-source content management system TYPO3, Kasper Skaarhoj’s core development team has delivered interesting new features for the faster administration and more efficient maintenance of complex online projects.
Simple Applications – Great Efficiency
Version 3.8 is built around the user. The integrated import/export module offers editors key advantages. References within documents or websites are recognized automatically. Be they pictures, links, texts or download-documents, all connections are grasped and, as the case may be, exported, or imported to the new site.
For its part, the powerful search engine now produces statistics about the terms entered, as well as indexing new types of data, such as MS Excel tables, MS PowerPoint presentations, and OpenOffice.org documents.
Concentration on Performance
The new, highly configurable “Cache-Control-Headers” allow a massive improvement in performance through the use of a reverse proxy. This delivers an increase in speed as well as a reduction of traffic.
The integrated Database Abstraction Layer (DBAL) has been worked over and expanded. A new departure in the integration of services directly into the core represents a continuation down the path towards modularity and an avoidance of redundant functions. As of now, individual language versions will be installed as individual Language Packs, thus saving space and improving performance.
Security and Quality Control – Part of the Concept
Only a short time ago, TYPO3 showed what kind of importance is attached to security matters in Open Source projects. Within only one hour of the appearance of a mail-form bug, the TYPO3 security team was officially on the job. A very short while later the bug had been fixed: a reaction time that the clients of many commercial systems can only dream about. It goes without saying that the solution is a standard part of the new version.
Security and quality control are core concerns of TYPO3. These concerns – often touchy ones for Open Source projects – are firmly grounded here at the TYPO3 Association.
